Preventative Care
Physical Exams
At Willow Creek Veterinary Service, P.C., we hold tight to the importance of the complete and thorough exam. No matter the animal, we like to begin every exam with a complete history. The history gives the owner a chance to explain in complete confidence, the problems they have been seeing with the patient. Often times the veterinarian will ask important questions about many of the parts of the history so that the history becomes clear and has the ability to give the doctor as much information as possible. From the history, the doctor will often begin the actual physical exam. From a distance, the physical exam looks very simplistic. On a closer look, the physical exam is actually quite detailed and in-depth. We often begin at the nose and end up in the back evaluating everything in-between including the major body organs that manifest themselves in ways that can be seen. Items checked with the physical exam include: Hair coat & Skin condition, Cranial Nerves, Ears, Nose, Eyes, Oral Cavity, Cardiovascular system, Lymph Nodes, Muscular tone, Gastrointestinal system, Urinary and genital systems.

Vaccinations
Our clinic follows the recommendations by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) for vaccine protocols, along with requirements of state and local governments. We provide all core vaccinations and many additional non-core vaccines for both cats and dogs. These vaccines protect and prevent against diseases that are harmful and potentially life threatening to both pets and humans.

Flea/Tick & Heartworm Prevention
Pests are harder to get rid of than to prevent! We carry a wide selection of flea/tick prevention products, both topical and oral medications for easy use in your pets. Our staff is highly qualified to help you decide which product works best for you and your pet. We also carry Sentinel Spectrum as our Heartworm prevention. Heartworms are carried by mosquitoes and are a potential deadly disease if a dog is infected with them. We follow the guidelines of the American Heartworm Society for testing for heartworms, which is a yearly heartworm test on all canines before filling a prescription for prevention medication. |
Microchip
Micro-chipping has become more popular in recent years, so we offer the Save-This-Life microchip system. The microchip is roughly the size of a grain of rice and implanted between the shoulder blades under the skin. It is equipped with a radio frequency identification (RFID) number that is read when scanned at your local veterinarian or shelter if your dog becomes lost. Unfortunately this is not a GPS tracking system, though technology is improving everyday.
